It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Steven Joseph Segadelli, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, basketball coach and teacher. Steve, 73, passed away peacefully surrounded by his wife and children on Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2023 after a courageous battle with cancer. Lovingly known as "Coach Seg”, Steve’s impact on the lives of his family and community will be felt for years to come.

Steve was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, known for his passion for sports and overwhelming pride in his family. Steve was a stabilizing source of support and love for his family, always the first person they turned to in their joy and sadness. His encompassing hugs, the warmth he brought to any room, and the secret stash of candy he shared with his grandchildren will be deeply missed and remembered with affection.

Coach Seg impacted so many people in the classroom, on the court and in life. Steve was a dedicated educator, spending over 40 years in the classroom, teaching physical education and health and coaching basketball at Bishop Blanchet High School and Woodinville High School. He was a beloved mentor to countless students and athletes, known for his passion for teaching and his dedication to his players. His love of education, his students and teaching was infectious. One of his former students said, "I could sit and listen to him lecture for hours."

As both a boys’ and girls’ basketball coach, one of Coach Seg’s greatest skills was his ability to help others achieve more than they ever thought they could achieve. He had a way of making everyone on his team feel valued. In December, Steve was inducted into the Woodinville High School Hall of Fame. One of his former players spoke to the impact Coach Seg had on their lives: “His true ability was to connect with us personally and we all felt special to him and the team. He believed in us, so we believed we could. I still use that today in my adult life.” Coach Seg was a fierce competitor on the court, but always made sure to instill important values such as teamwork, resilience, integrity and perseverance in his players. He was a mentor and a father figure to many, and his influence on his players extended far beyond their time on the court.

Born in Nampa, Idaho, Steve moved to Burien, Washington in early childhood, where he grew up with his parents and five siblings, David, Theresa, Phillip, Margaret and Mary. He attended O'Dea High School, where he was himself an impressive presence and talent on the basketball court. He went on to play basketball at Seattle University, where he earned both his Bachelor of Arts and Masters degree in education.

Steve is preceded in death by his parents (Alfred and Eileen) and is survived by his wife (Gina), children (Jennifer, Patrick and Adriana), and grandchildren (Catherine, Charlotte and Paxson).
