Seattle Science Foundation offers hands-on summer program for students

The Seattle Science Foundation is offering two hands-on cadaveric summer programs for students who are ready to explore a future career in medicine with like-minded students: Mini Medical School (https://ssf.cloud-cme.com/mini-med-school) & Summer Research Internship ((https://ssf.cloud-cme.com/ssf-summer-internship23)

There is a fee to participate in both programs and we plan to offer scholarships to students who need financial assistance.

Mini Medical School | Summer Program

The summer program runs Tuesday, July 11, through Thursday, Aug. 17, 2023, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Seattle Science Foundation, Seattle, WA

If you ready to explore your future career in medicine with like-minded students, then this is your program. SSF's Mini Medical School is an academic summer opportunity that uses hands-on learning for students with a strong interest in pre-med or medically related fields.

Students will have the opportunity to dissect real human cadaveric specimens, work with the latest technology in a state-of-the-art medical facility and network with leading physicians, residents and fellows. The course is designed to provide a fun and relaxed environment for all participants while learning the intricacies of the human body and entrance into the medical profession.

We recommend that participants be at least 16 years old and entering their junior or senior year in high school. Current college or university students are also encouraged to attend.

Students will gain surgical experience, watch live surgical demonstrations performed by leading surgeons, perfect their laparoscopic surgery skills on our simulated training boxes and take part in a hands-on anatomy lab using cadaveric specimens. Students will also discuss medical ethics with practicing physicians, review medical terminology and tour the Swedish Hospital medical facilities.

Upon completion of the program, students will be awarded a Letter of Recommendation, a Certificate of Achievement, a group photo of their graduating class and a special invitation to additional SSF's Hands-On Cadaver Courses

There are four sessions; Session 1: July 11 – 13, Session 2: July 25 – 27, Session 3: August 1 - 3 and Session 4: Aug 15 – 17. A light breakfast and lunch will be provided each day. The tuition is $1500 for one session.

The Seattle Science Foundation is located on the Cherry Hill Campus of Swedish Hospital at 550 17th Avenue, James Tower, Ste 600 in Seattle, Washington. Parking is available in the garage on 16th Avenue between Cherry and Jefferson at a maximum fee of $17. From I-5 (northbound and southbound), James will become Cherry Street.
